Measuring VO₂ max

Updated onJune 25, 2026

Aidlab estimates your VO₂ Max from outdoor runs using GPS, heart rate, and activity data.

What is VO₂ Max

VO₂ Max is the maximum amount of oxygen your body can use during exercise, expressed in ml/kg/min. It’s a simple way to describe your aerobic fitness.

A higher VO₂ Max usually indicates better aerobic endurance.

How Aidlab calculates it

Aidlab uses data from your runs:

  • duration — at least 10 minutes
  • GPS — pace and distance
  • heart rate — above 70% of max
  • profile — age, sex, height, weight

Together, these inputs allow Aidlab to estimate your aerobic capacity.

Why these conditions matter

To get a reliable result:

  • the run must be outdoors with GPS
  • it must last at least 10 minutes
  • effort must be intense enough (>70% HR max)

If these aren’t met, VO₂ Max won’t be calculated — but other data will still be saved.

Where to find it

Look at trends over weeks, not single values.

Make sure it works

  1. Log in to the Aidlab app
  2. Wear Aidlab correctly (good skin contact)
  3. Enable GPS before the run
  4. Complete your profile (age, sex, height, weight)

Why VO₂ Max may not appear

  • no GPS or indoor run
  • duration below 10 minutes
  • heart rate too low
  • incomplete profile

VO₂ Max is calculated only for runs that meet all conditions.
